Such a great piece, Maia, thank you. I really resonate with the Teacher aspect of activism, although I appreciated the thoughtful descriptions of each role, which helped me be able to think about ways to bring each type of activism into everyday community interactions.

“At least on 9/11, we were all in it together. The cognitive dissonance I’m now experiencing is huge.” I felt this way quite a bit too, Maia, just blown away that there were so, so many more people in this destructive paradigm than I had hoped…

I can definitely see you expressing that Teacher archetype, Sydney! I also see some of the Creator/Visionary in your writings/photos as well, how you bring beauty to the forefront. We often have a mix, with one or two in the leading voice.

When I offered it as an online journey (I really stay away from calling them ‘courses’!), we’d think about people who are exemplars in those archetypes. I often think of Barack Obama as a good example of a Teacher… he’s a skilled writer and speaker as well as a community organizer. He has a way of imparting information that enlightens and inspires.

Thank you for all the ways you offer your gifts through your Substack!

I love this framing. I'm a Creator/Visionary, trying to be a better Healer and Teacher. I have allies who are Warriors and want me to join them, but it doesn't resonate with my personality, as you so perfectly put it. I'd be cosplaying it at best.

We haven't met get, Maia, but I love Santa Fe and hope we can meet next time I visit, I hope in the new year.

Maia, I'm sorry you continue feeling unwell post-election. I fully appreciate why. I've protected myself by not watching corporate news, holding on to hope, taking refuge in my meditation practice, and exploring a new learning path. Happening upon the wrong headline can still frighten me, but I try not to stay there. I think more will be revealed in the coming weeks, so I remain hopeful. If things remain dark, you have offered us a terrific model for the different ways we can engage in the resistance.

Thanks, Sandra. The chronology of that post might be slightly misleading... Some of those words were written in the day and two after the election, and that flow of feelings was quite intense. I feel a lot more integrated now, even though emotions of course continue to arise. Interestingly I'm more in touch with anger this week.

Yes, more will be revealed in the coming weeks. I'm not sure I'd say I'm 'hopeful,' but I am present and ready to respond, and welcoming connections with others. xox

Indeed we have never met and will probably never Maia, however I feel connected to you/us in this Indra's net. One thought that comes more and more to me when I wake up : I am alive, this is the miracle. I don't need to wait for another thing. (I am still highly privileged compared to many of us). Yesterday I listened to Margaret Wheatley's interview by Thomas Hubl. She told this story of the Shambala warriors, actually mentioning Joanna Macy. We are not alone, and we are not defined by the circumstances, even the worst ones... Sending Love to all, warriors, healers, teachers, creators.
