This is just what we need at this moment. Thank you, Maia. I'm excited about these approaches. I'm lucky to live in Hawaii, surrounded by nature and with some separation from the chaos of the mainland.
I hope you find them supportive, dear Sandra. Yes, what a blessing to live in Hawaii! I was only there once but remember the beauty of the land and ocean. You're also in a place with a strong Indigenous presence, which I think is also so important to reference these days.
These are great. I second getting in that vital time in nature. I think finding an emotional outlet or way to express yourself is important whether that be through writing, recording yourself then deleting it, or talking with a friend. Also, I'm reminded of the phrase 'movement is medicine' ~ for me, I feel so much better after even a little exercise, xo
Yes, no matter what happens -- and I have a feeling it will be wild over the next few months -- we do have the capacity to choose our responses and to grow beloved community. That's what is most important.
A covered porch with a rocking chair is great if you can swing it. I unfortunately don't have one. I have a deck though! I love coffee on the deck early in the morning. Unfortunately, sometimes my deck chairs are dew-covered that early :-(
If my self-discipline is really in order, I'll do coffee on the deck with no phone, no book, and no computer. That's when nature really talks to me!
Simplifying my life as best I can, a day free each week from all phone and online activity, practicing awareness of when I am competitive, and about the silliest things, too, and grasping for more stuff, etc., using local sources as much as possible, taking the sustenance of good company, animal included, spending time in my garden with the birds and plants, reading poetry and good writing, my own creativity, I am playing the piano again and loving it, walking, walking, qigong, walking, swimming, walking :). - all of these fit somewhere in your wonderful toolkit.
Those are fantastic additions to the toolkit, Karen. It's so great that you are playing piano again. We all need to find these sources of solo and shared nourishment.
yes!
The opening paragraph….. great advice for surreal times, I love the tree!
Glad to have you here, Bob!
This is so timely, Maia, thank you!
you're welcome, Sydney -- glad it came at the right time.

Saving this and referencing when I need it. Also, your book came in the mail today, I'm excited to dive in!
I just love that you ordered my book, Christine! I'm always happy to answer any questions or listen to whatever might come up for you as you read it.

I love that phrase, "movement is medicine." Walking is often my go-to when I need to change up some energy.
Me, too. I love walking.
Bravo Maia and thanks for reminding us of the important things in life and the tools in our control that help us stay mindful and in a good flow!

Walking or swimming in nature is so healing and grounding. Even just a few minutes can make all the difference. Thanks for the reminder, Maia!

appreciating the practical toolkit, Maia. thank you. inspired me to create a network of neighbors.
I love hearing that, Elena! Our neighbors are such a place of potential, often overlooked. Feel free to share how that goes, if you'd like!
