I very much enjoyed this photo-essay, Maia. For the duration of the “special operation” by Putin in Ukraine I’ve followed a woman from Kyiv, on Twitter, who writes of life there. She often declares that she’s in search of beauty on her daily walks. I’m certain she would so appreciate your photos. Thank you for the photos from your home State.
That sounds amazing, Gary. I find such inspiration in folks who live amongst the greatest devastation and can still find reasons to live, and to love. Humanity depends on that capacity.
I fully agree, Maia. In that short 2+ year span, Yara has learned near perfect English, learned to drive, studied photography to enhance the quality of her mixed media essays, produces a weekly newsletter for supporters containing a brief war report but mostly telling us where she went and what she saw over the past week! Brave, strong, determined are a few terms that apply. Our world harbors an enormous number of inspiring figures from all over. Writing of them, or by them, shows us people we are unlikely to ever meet, yet grows a community of goodness and truth. Thank you so much for all you do in that same regard.
Thank you for your wise words and beautiful photos! I'm sorry that you and Lucy were attacked by a dog, and bless you for responding with kindness, and letting the light and love flow in. And thanks for the shout-out! Many blessings to you.
This is beautiful Maia. Every February, I take a retreat to the San Francisco area with a group of dear people from around the world. I'm always astounded my the natural beauty (particularly, the green because Nebraska, where I live, is definitely not green in February). These wonderful pictures brought me back to that time and place. Thank you. And thank you for the mention!
Hi Maia! Such a great collection of springtime beauty! I actually especially like that view of the Ferry Building - the angle and the color palette are so engaging!
I look forward to hearing more about what had grown out of that very scary incident - so glad you're well, and even flourishing, in the aftermath 💕
Thanks so much for recommending my publication - "photo/beauty-centered message" is exactly what I'm all about, too!
This is so beautiful on so many levels. I bought Work That Matters and am making my way through. I am SO glad you and your sweet pup are ok. I'm at a major fork in the road of my life. Deeply grateful to have found you and your work. Thank you for sharing this.🙏
Such a gorgeous photo bouquet Maia! I love seeing beautiful photography here. Sorry to hear you were attacked by a dog, that’s horrible. Glad you’re ok
When I shared your phrase
“Liberation-Based Livelihood” with my choir mate who had been laid off recently, her face lit up.
I purchased 2 copies of Work That Matters: one to keep and one to give.
Good work. Keep it up.
❤️❤️❤️

Thank you for these beautiful photos. So nourishing ❤️
I love San Francisco! Lived there for two years in North Beach. What a magical city. Appreciate the short post and beautiful photos.

Very beautiful, Maia, and how kind of you to share three other beautiful image-heavy Substackers. That's generous!
A rising tide lifts all boats!
Definitely!
Glad you are okay! And the photos are lovely! I have been wanting to travel to Northern California
