Maia, love this — especially the idea of starting a bookstore / café. A secret dream of mine! P.S. Didn’t we meet a while back through Pam Slim?

Yes, @DebbieWeil, great memory! Pam Slim is our link to each other. Hope you are well.

Welcome Maia! Substack is a wonderful place to be, glad you hopped on board.

I loved reading your piece about letting go because I wrote about that this week too. Many folks are in a time of shedding their old skin to move toward something different. We are living in a time of great change at the macro and micro level and to navigate it all it seems we must move inward.

Way to go being brave and taking this big step!

Thanks for sharing Maia! I am also in a professional leap of faith place in life. I know what I'm aiming toward, but it's more of a bodily feeling or flow to life that it feels difficult to implement. I'm fortunate that I have a few months to clear some space and sort that, but as someone who has often made decisions prematurely to avoid uncertainty, woo boy is it uncomfortable.

I hear you, Amy. The discomfort is such a rich place of transformation, but we have to get through it first without jumping out prematurely. Easier said than done!

Lovely essay, Maia. Do listen to your heart. Our time here is limited so do what makes you sing.

Welcome to Substack, Maia! I had so many chills reading your piece. I am just about halfway through a year’s leave of absence from a place of work I deeply love in order to focus entirely on writing. I had also worked for this place of mine for seven years before taking the leap. I have ALSO felt a persistent voice over the last few years whispering that it was time to go, go, go, despite the fact that I love the work and the community dearly. And I have ALSO been feeling those same whispers—the path will come together as you walk it. Go forward, little heart. Etc!

I’m not sure if the latter part of this year will see me return to that place of work or not. But that voice inside of me keeps whispering: just you wait and see. I keep having to breathe and remind myself that sometimes the safety net only appears after you jump, and not before.

And so! I am here, cheering on your own leap, and peering across the chasm that awaits my own. Sending love across all of that wild, gorgeous space. xoxo

Love all this. As a middle-ager launching a first book myself, it's deeply confronting. It helps knowing others are in the same boat.

I love this! I'm at the beginning of my own similar journey. I'm excited to see what the universe wishes for me to discover and create! Wishing you the best!
