I can TOTALLY see you as Rolf, Troy. Except you wouldn’t have been an asshole at the end, and you would’ve had your eye on a cute guy just beyond Lisl 🤣
But how do I make the turkish eggs...? They look lovely. Thank you for sharing these favorite things. Mine are simple: Drinking water from my favorite colorful tumbler. Tap tap tapping away on my computer in the quiet before my kids get up. Hugging my delicious nieces.
It’s pretty easy, Marika : ) The description is pretty much the recipe — poach a couple of eggs, press some garlic and mix it up into the greek yogurt, serve the eggs on top of the yogurt. The sauce is aleppo peppers or Berbere spice sauteed in some olive oil. enjoy!
I love this! I needed this nourishment today 🩵 Thank you, Maia. Here are some of mine:
1. My hands in the dirt or more recently, in clay.
2. Staring at a cut flower in for a good long while.
3. Sending a voice note to a friend.
4. Dancing bachata in the living room.
5. Reading some good poetry: Li-Young Lee's new book The Invention of The Darling, and my friend @Carrie Olivia Adams’ book, The Book of Marys and Glaciers.
Have you read or heard Rebecca Solnit talk about George Orwell’s roses? In between fighting fascism in Spain and writing about socialism, he tended rose gardens and had a meaningful domestic life. That’s what your post reminds me of: how important it is to tend to pleasure during authoritarian crises. To me the light and fluffy is the substance of life—I want to take care of the world so that everyone can dance and cook good meals and sing and plant seeds in their garden. It’s why I’m in this struggle.
And bachata! I’m obsessed! It’s a dance from the Dominican Republic. It’s same time signature as salsa, but more hip and step. This is one of my favorite dance instructors: https://www.youtube.com/@Sarah.LaMorena
2. Go fly a kite. Up where the air is right. (But that is from a different movie.)
3. Look at the birds.
4. Sit down. Shut up. Breathe. (Spend time practicing silence.)
5. Feed my sheep. (Help someone.)
Note: Some of these imperatives might be used by one's detractors. Turned around they can be healing. 3 & 5 are imperatives of Jesus taken out of context.
Thank you so much for bringing more comfort to my Heart from all your posts . What am i doing you ask. A few years ago an Iyengar Yogi friend of mine said I can’t meditate . That hit me hard because meditation literally saved my life in 1970 plus years ago and still does. Then I found detraumatization therapies in 2010 which made an immense difference though I always differ to my meditations . Inspired by my friend’s distress I wrote a workbook for those who think they can’t meditate and it turned into a daily practice of posting on Insta with the Simple phrase “Say Hello my Beloved Soul softly out loud.” Because what are we doing in our mindfulness and other forms of meditations ? Are we not seeking Soul Connection ? I add a suggested nervous system practice to that list often just good ole humming, That’s the main thing I do daily post those simple words on five places like threads insta and Substack . In between I cook a lot of comfort food . Gf Seed crackers are my hearts and pallets delight this week. I bumped the crackers up with hemp seed and dried puffed. amaranth this week . My 35 year old daughter with Extra needs lives with us and We come up with new recipes almost daily ! Your turkish eggs looks like our next endeavor. More comforts I find lots of snuggling under warm down quilts and naps. Listening to prophets and seers on utube about the crumbling of the patriarchal world as we know it and the building of a New World which we create with our Hearts . Listening to those utube interviews helps so much to instill hope and the belief we have a better future . Walking in my garden tending the flowers and medicinal herbs comforts me. Listening to our waterfalls. Holding my daughter’s hand comforts . Plus my newest thing that is really working is speaking love language kindnesses to myself in the mirror first thing every morning. I am
love, I am loved, I am light , I radiate Light and abundance. I am worthy of love and reciprocal relationships , I am in harmony with Mother Earth , I live in Thriving Health and many other sweet loving nurturing things. Thank you again for asking as I’m a bit lonely these days and writing helps.
I played Rolf in our 6th grade production, dearie me... This is splendid, Maia! 💛
I can TOTALLY see you as Rolf, Troy. Except you wouldn’t have been an asshole at the end, and you would’ve had your eye on a cute guy just beyond Lisl 🤣
haha Yeah - look out Maria, I've got a telegram for Daddy Von Trapp... 😍
🤣
Love your list, Maia - thank you. And I think it's telling that the nuns thought Maria was a problem to solve. I mean...?!!! 🙄🙄🙄
Just what many of us need right now! Thank you, Maia.

I love thinking about refuges and resources as our favorite things. What a beautiful frame. Thank you.

I was worried this post might be too ‘light and fluffy,’ but hey sometimes we need light and fluffy, eh?
Tell us about bachata dancing! I know nothing!

I had forgotten about that story of George Orwell’s roses — thank you for reminding me!
And here’s to healthy obsessions : )
💛 💛 💛 Thanks for the uplift and for the light you bring into the world through your writing, dear Maia!
Thanks for the beauty, the laughs, the spiritual consolations. 🙏🏻
Other ways I destress:
1. Take a hike! Get lost! (in nature).
2. Go fly a kite. Up where the air is right. (But that is from a different movie.)
3. Look at the birds.

Love your list, Robert! Wonderful that you included service in there (feeding your sheep!).
thank you for sharing it, @Miguel Clark Mallet

That's a wonderful list, Lucy! Thank you for sharing your bright points of light with all of us. Love to you and your sweet daughter.
