May New Moon / Dharma Substack!
an exciting new project...
This new moon I’m doing something a little different than the “3 Good Things” list that I usually post. New moons are a great time to initiate new projects, and that’s what’s happening today… introducing…
Dharma Substack!
During the four months I’ve been active on Substack, I’ve noticed it is difficult to find other Buddhist-inspired newsletters by using Substack's search and category functions. You can enter “Buddhist” into the search field, but that’s not going to turn up a lot of great Substacks and authors that I’ve stumbled across. Alternately you might see a Substack that’s got “Zen” in its title — but that’s no guarantee that the content is actually informed by Buddhadharma.
I'm putting together this directory to meet that need by offering curation of the many excellent Buddhist-inspired Substacks that are out there. I hope this service will be of benefit to many people! Once this information is compiled, it will be published on a new section for this purpose on my Substack, The Practice of Life. Down the road it may get its own separate publication with more bells and whistles, but for now it’s starting simple.
*** Would you like your Substack to be included in Dharma Substack? Fill out this form! ***
I’m hoping to have a first version of Dharma Substack ready to share by June; if you’d like to be in on the launch, please submit your form by May 26. I'm still figuring out how the directory will be organized, which may become more clear after your submissions start coming in. Your input is welcome!
This project is a labor of love. If you’d like to contribute something in appreciation of my time and efforts on Dharma Substack, you are welcome to make a one-time donation, or sign up for a paid subscription to The Practice of Life. Thank you for your generosity!
I want to acknowledge writers and publications that have offered a model on how to do something like this:
Home on Substack — a directory of Nature-related newsletters, curated by Rebecca Wisent
Qstack — the LGBTQ+ Directory of Substacks, curated by Mr. Troy Ford
Sober Stack — an annotated directory of Substack newsletters devoted to addiction recovery and sobriety, curated by Dana Leigh Lyons
WRITER'S TIP JAR
Dear readers,
This year, I’m taking less paid work in order to focus on writing a memoir about my journey with my elderly parents over the past decade as they moved through a difficult period, and how my own relationship with them transformed before they died of COVID in 2021.
If you appreciate my writing and would like to support this effort, I humbly invite your generosity. My writing on Substack is freely offered, but if you feel moved to offer something back and have the means to do so, it is greatly appreciated.
You can use this button to make a one-time donation, or you can choose a monthly or annual paid subscription. Thank you!

What a lovely and important offering. I’m currently helping my friend Dylan with his memoir titled Liberation of Being: Allowing Terminal Illness to teach us How to Live. His approach living with ALS is founded in zen philosophy. The pre-release campaign begins soon and will be available on Amazon early fall, hopefully before he exits this world. He can no longer type/communicate exit simple yes/no questions, but it would be wonderful to share his campaign or at the very least, a link to his book, once it’s out? I’m open to your thoughts!
This is fantastic. I have actually been thinking of doing this myself. Im so happy you are initiating this important project! I write regularly about Dharma and am so happy to have come across your work. Looking forward to reading more. https://gregorypettys.substack.com/
